Chris Pittman interview with Polands Nightrain Station
Poland's Nightrain Station conducted an interview with none other than Chris Pittman. Here's the full interview
Q- What were your dreams as a teenager and which of them came true?
cp- i wanted to be a painter, or a writer, …instead i ended up a lowly musician
Q- How did you join Gn’R?
cp- we merely fused together musical ideas and concepts, and it turned out to be this record called Chinese Democracy
Q- How do you feel when you play shows like Rock am Ring ? What does it mean playing with Gn’R for you? Is it a job, hobby, or just hanging out with friends?
cp- its really too nebulous to describe to anyone. words can’t do it.
Q- Is it possible that we will see you playing bass on some occassion? Are there any other instruments you can play – perhaps the drums?
cp- On the recordings, ive played a multitude of instruments. On tour, I’ll do vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar, bass and whatever comes up. when we do private acoustic party gigs, i’ll play a triangle or something that is as weird as possible
Q- Would you like to visit Poland again? What did you like about our country?
cp- would love to return. I didn’t have time to check out much outside of the stadium. drats
Q- Is there anything you learned from Dizzy Reed?
cp- Dizzy is always a role model on How to be a Cool human being.
Q- What’s the best and the worst thing while being on tour with the band?
cp- the best thing is when the tour ends, the worst thing is waiting around and not sleeping much
Q- Do you plan to record another cd with Lusk, Replicants or SexTapes?
cp- its an uncertain future, and i like that. for December 2008, I’m introducing a new band by playing live in los angeles, its called ‘The Walter Kronkite Trio’ - its a unique concept, and entirely electronic.
Q- Why, in your opinion, would some people call your style “Super Funky Techno Beats”?
cp- when i hear the term ‘techno beats’, i think of House music or Disco. that music has never inspired me. i like Super Funky though, like the groove i wrote in ‘If the World’. which was actually based in Dub/Reggae
Q- Is it true that you can perfectly parody / imitate Christopher Walken?
cp- no, but i can do a good Slim Pickens
Q- Do you like signing autographs and pose for photos with fans? Do people recognize you often in the streets?
cp- i prefer to be anonymous, so i can freely move around and meet people genuinely
Q- How would you solve the problem with people illegally downloading music from the internet so it would be good for the fans and recording artists as well?
cp- How would I solve it?
by providing free cell phone service, free satellite television, free movies ,and free anything that is digital, just like what they do with music. and just as it has destroyed the Music Industry, and it has, don’t believe anything different, it would be nice to see the end of the Communications Industry, the Entertainment Industry, etc. etc.
and then we can all go back to cuddling up next to the fire again with our hand drums and mouth harps
Q- Do you consider yourself a rich man?
cp- i would consider myself as broke-ass. try financing your own independent records, videos, and art and you’ll know what i mean
Q- Is there anything you would like to say to Polish fans?
cp- Hi, how are you
Q- What question would you like to be asked? Please answer it.
cp- Am I a spokesman for Guns N Roses? No, i am merely doing promo for my band SexTapes and thats why I am currently doing interviews. Everything that I say should be considered as both true and false.
Q- What would you say to your fans about your last records (SexTapes and Chinese Democracy).
cp- go out and buy them. get vinyl records if you can. they provide the highest Sonic quality. think of it as HI-DEF
Thank you for your time and all answers.
Hope to see you soon here in Poland

Epoch Times reviews Chinese Democracy: “Warm applause for long-awaited album”
The Epoch Times reviewed Chinese Democracy. This is what they had to say:
"Let me be frank. I wasn’t too optimistic about the new Guns N’ Roses album,Chinese Democracy. After constant delays, numerous lineup changes, and a clamor surrounding the band, I was only slightly curious to see what all the fuss has been about up until now. But, by the time the second track, Shackler’s Revenge, purged the speaker with its hip, futuristic guitar growl nestled sweetly underneath Axl Rose’s surprisingly baritone introduction, I was intrigued, to say the least.
A lot of hype and controversy has surrounded GNR’s first album of original material since 1991. Purists would argue that with Rose as the only original member and without lead guitarist Slash and rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, the band is too far from its original dynamic to produce songs of their previous caliber. I initially sided with that idea, but upon further investigation, I began to doubt that opinion. Wasn’t Slash’s follow-up band, Velvet Revolver, a comparative dud, never producing any memorable moments comparable to the GNR legacy?
And what about the newsworthy title track/single, Chinese Democracy? One thing is definite—Axl Rose has kept his 46-year-old rebellious spirit alive and breathing, as the song Chinese Democracy brings to light the Chinese Communist Party’s massive state-wide persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual meditation practice. Chinese authorities have banned the album throughout China, dubbing the title and content an “attack” on the Party. The CCP was also probably a little unseated with the line, “If your Great Wall rocks, blame yourself.” Kudos, Mr. Rose.
So, what about the content? All the staple GNR moments have gallantly returned with the signature guitar tones, the epic production, and Rose’s unmatchable vocal range which hits the tape in a precise and flavorful fashion.
Every facet of Chinese Democracy is polished—perhaps a little too polished. But looking back to the Use Your Illusion days, so was the production on that record. Andy Wallace, who mixed Nirvana’s Nevermind and a host of others successful albums, was pivotal in constructing a crisp and solid mix that is crystal clear and challenges the listener’s eardrum capacity.
The first three tracks of Chinese Democracy spilled a fierce and heavy cauldron of sonically astute rock and roll energy front and center inside my brain. Better crept up on me with a scratchy cyberpunk intro that hypnotically swelled into the kind of forgotten quality I’ve been looking for in rock and roll as of late—emotion.
The lyrics and arrangements were especially inspiring and fluid leading up to a bridge that was not only a dropkick assault of heavy guitars but also schooled 90 percent of the music I’ve heard in the last year. I was hooked, my body was in motion, and I was mouthing the lyrics all the way until the end.
The album switches gears for the next few tracks in which Axl breaks out the piano along with his Pro Tools, audio workstation. The production-and-effects-layered Street of Dreams and If the World are traditional classic rock, ballad fare, and have a few catchy parts, but they are not the disc’s strongest pieces. Madagascar is a poetic glance about choice and freedom, in which dozens of audio samples paint the landscape of the song.
One thing to be noted about Chinese Democracy is that many of the tracks require more than one swallowing. I was kind of scoff-ish toward This I Love and Catcher and the Rye but after a few listens, I could feel the tracks growing on me like a rosy fungus.
The bottom line is, Chinese Democracy is a unique experience that holds true to the Guns N’ Roses of old and doesn’t fall victim to the doubtful shadows cast from before. One part defiant rocker, one part somber revolutionary, and equal part fresh, magnetic creativity, the new GNR delivers a stellar punch that rivals any of the rock and roll of 2008."
Better single to be released on Dec. 2nd
Acording to FMQB, Better will be the next single off of 'Chinese Democracy'.
Better will be the 2nd single off of 'Chinese Democracy', following the first released title track.
Many are wondering whether there will be a music video released the same day, due to speculation on why Axl has yet to be seen anywhere since the album's release.

Sebastian Bach Says ‘Chinese Democracy’ Is ‘The Definition Of Great Rock ‘N’ Roll’
Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach, who spent much of 2006 and 2007 touring as the support act for GUNS N' ROSES, has issued the following update:
"Let's talk audio here. Just like you and the rest of the planet, since Sunday I have spent every waking moment I can listening to 'Chinese Democracy'. Recently I purchased a brand new turntable, partly because it has a USB cord on the back so you can make MP3s of your albums. Funny thing, I have not made one MP3 yet since I bought it. Fact is, any ear can hear that albums sound far richer, clearer and more natural by far than mp3's and even standard CDs. Once I started listening to my albums again, the only use I now have for MP3s is their portability. It's definitely cool to carry your whole collection around in your pocket, but as far as sound goes, analog whups digital's ass, hands down, no contest.
"Which leads me to 'Chinese Democracy'. Picked up the 180-gram vinyl double album and the CD as well for the car. This is the first brand new album I have bought in over 15 years, for sure, possibly 20 years. All I can say is, we as music fans have lost a lot with the so-called (premature? one can only hope) 'demise' of the LP. As soon as I ran my fingernail down the side, splitting the cellophane and opened the gatefold sleeve, I knew I was in for a full-on rock'n'roll 'experience' getting into this LP. I pulled out disc 1 and was immediately struck by how 'heavy' this vinyl was. It's like my dad's old original copy of 'Led Zeppelin 2'. Not flimsy, lightweight vinyl like records became in the late '80s.'Chinese Democracy' is a heavy, thick 'platter' of a record. I couldn't wait to crank it.
"For your information, the Bach stereo system consists of : the 'Ion' turntable through a Pioneer VSX-52 Amplifier. I run this through an AudioControl C-101 equalizier, with Adcom poweramps. My speakers are JBL Control 10s with a Velodyne sub-woofer on a hardwood floor. Yes, I can make my whole house literally shake if I want, and yes, the lights actually dim for a second in my living room when I fire all the gear up. I dig it. In short, it kicks ass.
"As soon as I dropped the needle on 'Chinese Democracy', I was captivated by the sound of this record and the thought, talent, and care put into this piece of art from all involved. The power, clarity, separation and production of this music is nothing short of incredible. As loud as I want, I can still hear the vocals, guitars and everything else perfectly clear, with the bass rumbling my guts (and below) just like it should. When Axl rips into the line 'even with an iron fist' in the first song, the blood in my veins starts to boil and the intensity does not let up until the end of side four. What I hear on this record is unbelievable pathos, 100% of Axl's heart and soul on record for all of us to hear. When he sings a song such as 'Street Of Dreams', it's like Janis Joplin at her best, withQuincy Jones' quote of 'melody is king' operating in full effect. The melodies on this record rip my heart out. To hear them sung by the beautiful/deadly instrument that is Axl Rose's voice is something that is to me, truly special, not to mention really cool to own and be able to blast 'on stun' whenever I choose. Four times today so far, but who's counting.
"I cannot stop listening to this record. 'Scraped', 'Riad N' The Bedouins', 'Street Of Dreams', 'IRS', everytime I listen I have a new favorite. Brain, Bumblefoot, Robin Finck, everyone on the record played their asses off; the production is stellar; I haven't even got to the lyrics, still too blown away by the sheer sound to tackle the words.... yet! The album is, above all: Original. Heartfelt. Without compromise. How many records can you honestly describe in that way today? This is like nothing I have ever heard. And I can't wait to hear it again. Which is, to me, the definition of great rock'n'roll."

Guns N’ Roses Lawyer Blasts Dr Pepper
By Andre Paine, London
Guns N' Roses' and Axl Rose's lawyer has castigated Dr Pepper, accusing the soda maker of failing to deliver on its "Chinese Democracy" (Black Frog/Geffen) free soda promotion, which the band was never involved in.
Beverly Hills-based Alan Gutman has written to Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. president and CEO Larry Young, accusing the company of operating an online redemption scheme that was an "unmitigated disaster which defrauded customers." Gutman is demanding that Dr Pepper makes good on its offer by extending the period for the offer; he also wants full-page apologies in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal.
Gutman's letter makes clear his view that the original campaign was an "exploitation of my clients' legendary reputation and their eagerly awaited album" and "brazenly violated our clients' rights." He is also seeking an "appropriate payment... for the unauthorized use and abuse of their publicity and intellectual property rights," with the threat of further action if an acceptable offer is not made.
"Now is the time to clean up the mess," says Gutman.
Rose did not take any action when, in March, Dr Pepper put out a press release offering free soda to any American if the long-awaited Guns N' Roses album came out before the end of 2008. However, Rose has reacted to the news that fans have been unable to get their soda following the Nov. 23 release of "Chinese Democracy."
Dr Pepper's Web servers crashed under the demand for coupons that could be exchanged for free drinks. Dr Pepper extended the Nov. 23 promotion for an extra day, but the company's Web site was inaccessible for a substantial part of it.
"Dr Pepper was completely unprepared for the traffic to its site," says Gutman in the letter, describing the promotion as a "complete fiasco."
Gutman adds: "The entire point of your campaign has been to use public interest in Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses as a lure to increase consumer awareness of Dr Pepper." He further states that "mocking undertones" in the online promotional content represent a "raw and damaging commercial exploitation of our clients' rights," adding that the association is "even more damaging in light of your shoddy execution of your disingenuous giveaway offer."
The soda maker declined to comment. Dr Pepper was considering extending the promotion, according to a source close to the situation.

Recording ‘Chinese Democracy’: Axl Rose at the Palms Studio
Next month will mark two years since audio engineer Mark Gray, 31, dropped by the studio at the Palms to say goodbye to his co-workers before departing for a vacation. His boss asked him if he would be willing to come back early to do some just-booked sessions. "I went from 'no way,' " he recalls, "to changing my plane ticket right away." All it took to change his mind is what the sessions were for recording. And, on Dec. 27, 2006, Gray found himself one of the many engineers to be connected to the legendary Guns N' Roses disc "Chinese Democracy."
Axl Rose arrived at the Palms Studio inside the resort and worked for 13 days in 2006 on his vocals for the finally released disc. Gray recalls a list of 14 songs (the same number as on the released version) many with working titles. Among those Rose worked on at Palms Studio he is sure are on the disc are "Chinese Democracy," "Madagascar" and "Prostitute." Despite the years and controversies that accompanied over a decade-long (The Palms was years from being built when Rose started work on the album) process of creating "Chinese Democracy," Gray found Rose focused in their sessions at the end of 2006. Gray recalls:
"He had a firm handshake and looked you straight in the eye. It was all vocal overdubs or vocal leads. He would move from song to song, working on different parts. He was jumping about, but he knew exactly what he wanted. The producers set everything so the workflow is catered to the artist for anyone, and that is how it went down here. From what I saw, it was first takes or at most two or three takes. Rose would say, 'I can get the part better' or 'I can tighten it up.' "
And even if it took two more years for the results to be released, Gray was sure the album would eventually come out based on what he heard during those weeks working with Rose. While Gray was happy to play his tiny part in the disc, of course, he is happier now that "Chinese Democracy" is available to all, with Gray's engineering work from 2006 integrated into the finished disc. Gray notes of the sessions:
"This is Guns N' Roses. I had the butterflies in the stomach the night before each night. It was absolutely special. When you hear his voice, it was a highlight of my career. He just went in and sang. He was living with the record a long time by then, and he really knew what he wanted to do. He proved a good guy to be around. We would start about 5 or 6 in the evening, hitting tape by 7. We worked five or six hours. These were great sessions. It was a great moment in the studio for me, and it was technically flawless."
